Hello Folks,
I hope you are well keeping well and are looking forward to a good summer.
Firstly, I have to extend a huge thank you to all of you who enjoyed my last single ‘Moon and Back’. There was lots of great feedback from so many of you about how much you enjoyed the song and how you identified with the sentiment of it, which was great as it’s a very personal song to me. Thank you all very much, it means a lot.
Secondly, onwards to some musical news! On the 10th of June 2022, I'm releasing the next single 'Whiskey Mornings', from my forthcoming album, ‘…And The Sea' (September 2022).
The single is available to out now on all digital platforms.
You may have already guessed it, but funnily enough 'Whiskey Mornings' is a song dedicated to hangovers as we get older. Once up on a time in my twenties after a drinking session, all I needed was a few hours sleep followed by a breakfast roll and I’d be right as rain.
However now being over forty, the hangovers tend to start at 6am with what feels like a St. Patrick's Day Parade route through my head! The daylight hurts, paracetamol doesn’t work and a day of misery and self-loathing is all I’ve to look forward to. I know I’m not alone in this so that’s why I wrote the song. While it’s a light hearted, upbeat track it does have some dark undertones (I wouldn't have wrote it if I didn't) but I think you’ll enjoy it, or at least I hope you will!
In other news, I have some personal news. Whilst engaged in the extreme sport of helping my mother in the garden, I managed to twist (and most definitely shout) and fall over. Unfortunately, I suffered a nasty accident and injured my quad tendon and all my quad muscles with it. I’ll spare you the nasty photographs and show you one of my sexy cast (below).
Sadly, instead of playing lots of lovely gigs and festivals for the summer, I’ve had my leg up resting for the last six weeks and I’ve (at least) another six weeks to go. As bad as that has been, I’ve been busy writing some new songs so hopefully some good will come of this ill wind. However, I do feel obligated to warn you against the dangers of gardening and other such horticultural ventures, from which I have now retired from with immediate effect.
Doing my best to enjoy my horticultural retirement …
For those of you who may have read this far, congratulations! You have now reached the 'Random News' section - a new segment that I am aiming to perfect. You may or may not have seen my social media posts from November 2021, where I sowed 100 acorns from an oak tree that I originally planted when I was ten years old. I had hoped for and modestly aimed to have 30 or so out of the hundred to survive the winter and make it to see the summer sun. However to my surprise, just over eighty of them have popped up to say hello and some little seedings have even gone as far as Dundalk! I’m currently looking for homes for them so if anyone in Ireland and local to County Clare has some room to set a beautiful oak tree and do some good for the planet, drop me a line - I'd only be delighted to share them to a good home.
I’m delighted to announce that I will be performing as part of the Live At The Hall Concert Series at the Royal Spa Hotel in Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare on the 21st of June.
Tickets are €25 and available on Eventbrite.
I have some more new music coming soon and some European tour dates coming up in Autumn 2022 but for summer 2022, I will be remaining relatively quiet as I progress through my recovery.
If you’ve gotten this far down this email, fair play to you and christ, you must be bored so I’ll say goodbye for now!!
I hope you enjoy the new music and I’ll looking forward to seeing you at a live gig in the future.
Mulch fuzzy love,
David.
]]>Hope also has a new music video to share along with some upcoming gig news.
]]>Hello Folks,
It’s been a while but it’s great to be getting back out there.
So how about I start with the big news first and work our way back from there?
A NEW ALBUM IS COMING IN SEPTEMBER 2022!
Yes, that’s right! My new studio album “…and The Sea” is finally seeing the light of day and will be released in September 2022 through Swiss music label, TOURBOmusic.
Ahead of the album, I am releasing the second single/song from the album called ‘Moon and back’ on Friday, March 25th.
‘Moon and back’ is a song that’s very dear to my heart.
I’m very excited to be sending this song out into the world and hopefully, you’ll enjoy listening to it. The song will be available on all the usual spots including the dreaded Spotify, however I would encourage you to check it out on Bandcamp (or any other platform really!) if it all possible. The music video will be available on my YouTube channel if you fancy a watch - I had great fun shooting it with Crude Media!
The song and the album were recorded at Monique Recording Studios in Midleton, Co. Cork, Ireland. Similar to my 2017 album ‘Tough Love’, this album was also recorded under the guidance of legendary drummer and producer, Christian Best.

I was also joined by a fabulous ensemble of great musicians including Steffi Hess from Switzerland on double bass, Kealan Kenny from Cork on electric guitar and Darragh Keary from Limerick on Piano.
The guts of the track was cut live in the studio which is a beautifully terrifying way to record but I feel it has helped capture the heart and soul of the songs we recorded and I think ‘Moon and Back’ is a great example of that work.
The video for this single was filmed by Limerick based movie magicians ‘Crude Media’ - with the fantastic Shane Serrano and Wojciech Kwiatkowski behind the lens. We filmed it on a beautiful but baltic day in Quilty, Co. Clare and let me tell you, it was freezing!! A big shout out and thanks to Rhonda and Kenny for the beautiful vintage lamp we used for the shoot.

In other news, it was great to dust myself off and get back out in the road playing some shows. I had the great pleasure to open up for the legendary John Spillane on his mini tour of the north west of Ireland toward to end of last month. We played in the Town hall Theatre in Westport Co. Mayo, The Balor Arts Centre in Ballybofey, Co. Donegal and last but by no means least, the Glens Centre in Manorhamilton Co. Leitrim. They were lovely rooms to play with great audiences.

I have loads more news and lovely gigs coming over the next few months but for now, (if you’ve gotten this far!) I’ll say goodbye for now.
I hope you enjoy the new music and I’ll looking forward to seeing you at a live gig very soon.
